Victor Rodriguez 2025 Simply SEEN Participant
Of course, I have known all my life that I was gay and queer. I didn’t really share it outwardly until my first semester at Michigan State University. Away from family and among new folks, I carefully explored my true self. I know my family - especially my mom - always knew. We just didn’t talk about it. I’ve had three serious relationships. I’ve been married for six years, but with my man for 27. While he is a quiet soul, I live unapologetically out loud and proud. As far as self-expression, I’ve gone from super preppy, label whore, to artsy creative type.
I have always been open about my sexuality and love to support those who need a voice to do the same. This is especially important when listening to children and teens. Many family members have reached out. I’ve also supported many LGBTQ+ communities: AIDS Foundation Houston, Aid for AIDS of Nevada, The Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and TransTopia, among others.
My style has definitely evolved over the years. About 10 years ago, Sparkle Victor was born. I started mixing feminine and masculine fashion together. I’ve always been a fashionista. Last year, I was asked to describe my style. I realized I’m an Androgynous Expressionist, mixing traditional “gender-specific” clothing with reused, recycled, and unconventional materials to create a look that expresses my state of mind at any given time.

Being seen means living life as we wish - authentically and with purpose - quietly or as loud as we wish. By doing so, we may also encourage others to live their lives as they truly wish, with no need for approval, but certainly appreciated. As we grow and age, our identity, look, and physical and internal expressions do as well. We are here to evolve, guided by the universe and our experiences.
